Apple has teamed up with Universal Music Group (UMG) to introduce Sound Therapy. It’s solely aimed at providing a new wellness-focused music experience. If you are willing to dive into the details, figure out how it works, and why it can be a noteworthy addition to your special playlists, you’ve landed at the right place.
Designed to Help Improve Mental Well-Being
Designed to help users improve mental well-being, this Sound Therapy combines science, sound technology, and music artistry to offer curated playlists that promote focus, relaxation, and sleep.
At the heart of Sound Therapy is the integration of psychoacoustics—the study of how sound affects the brain—and audio engineering. The playlists feature reimagined versions of well-known songs, including instrumental and extended edits that are enriched with therapeutic sound elements.

These elements include specific brainwave frequencies such as gamma, theta, and delta waves, as well as colored noise like white and pink noise. Each sound is carefully selected to produce a calming or stimulating effect depending on the intended outcome.
Divided Into Three Special Categories
The Sound Therapy collection is divided into three main categories: Focus, Relax, and Sleep.
- The Focus playlists use gamma waves and white noise, which may enhance concentration and cognitive function.
- Relax playlists are tuned to theta waves, known for promoting calmness and reducing anxiety.
- Meanwhile, Sleep playlists incorporate delta waves and pink noise, which mimic natural sounds like gentle rain or wind to help users drift into a deeper, more restful sleep.

Research-Backed Methods
This project was developed by Sollos, Universal Music Group’s dedicated wellness initiative, in collaboration with scientists, music producers, and sound engineers. Together, they used research-backed methods to design audio experiences that target specific brain responses. The result is a unique blend of entertainment and health support, presented through music.
Among the featured artists are Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, and Kacey Musgraves, with each contributing tracks that have been specially adapted for therapeutic use. For example, a dreamy reinterpretation of Katy Perry’s “Double Rainbow” is included to encourage nighttime relaxation, while an Imagine Dragons track is optimized for focus and productivity.
A Modern and Proven Approach to Wellness
By combining scientific research with the emotional power of music, Apple Sound Therapy offers a modern approach to wellness. It reflects a growing trend of using technology and sound to improve mental health and daily functioning. Available exclusively on Apple Music, this initiative makes it easier for users to incorporate mindfulness and mental care into their everyday routines, just by pressing play.
