In order to get into action right away and also deliver a quick response, Siri keeps a tab on your conversations. If you also do not appreciate this feature, follow along to learn the 2 definitive ways to stop Siri from listening to you on iPhone.

In this hands-on guide, we’ve discussed both the permanent and temporary solutions. Hence, depending on your preference, you can choose the method that is in line with your preference.

Permanently Stop Siri from Listening to You on iPhone

1. To get started, open the “Settings” app on your iPhone.

2. In the Settings menu, scroll down and choose “Siri & Search”.

tap on Siri Search 1

3. Under the “Ask Siri” section, tap on “Listen For”.

4. On this screen, you have three options to choose from:

  • “Siri” or “Hey Siri”: Trigger Siri with the “Siri” or “Hey Siri” voice command.

The change will come into action right away and prevent Siri from listening to you. So, you shouldn’t worry about your privacy.

Temporarily Prevent Siri from Listening to You on iPhone

It’s worth pointing out that there is an even easier way to disallow Siri from listening to you on iOS. Guess what, it’s much easier than you think.

When you place your iPhone face down on a surface, Siri stops listening to you. Yeah, you got that right! The virtual assistant doesn’t trigger when the device is placed face down.

To me, this is the best and easiest way to take control of Apple’s virtual assistant. So, whenever you wish to have a bit of privacy and do not want the assistant to pay heed to your personal conversation, make sure to bring this super handy yet lesser-known feature.

But before going ahead, ensure that this hidden iOS feature is disabled.

  • To do so, head over to the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and choose Accessibility.
Choose Accessibility in iOS Settings
  • Now, scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen and choose Siri.
  • After that, make sure that the toggle next to “Always listen for Hey Siri” is disabled.

And that’s all there is to it! From now onwards, you can instantly turn off “Hey Siri” by putting your iPhone face down.
