Fix Apple Intelligence Proofreader Not Working in macOS Sequoia 15, iOS 18, or iPadOS 18
From a software glitch to a miscellaneous bug to a hidden restriction, there could be multiple reasons why Apple Intelligence is malfunctioning as a proofreader.
Ensure That You Have Not Mistakenly Blocked Apple Intelligence on Your Device
- On your Mac, go to the System Settings app or head into the Apple menu at the top left and choose System Settings. On your iPhone or iPad, head over to the Settings app.
- Now, select Screen Time -> Content & Privacy (on macOS) or Content & Privacy Resctions (on iOS/iPadOS) -> Intelligence & Siri.
- Next, make sure that the switch for Writing Tools is active. After that, hit the Done button. On iOS/iPadOS device, hit Writing Tools and select the Allow option.
- However, if the Writing Tools is already active on your Mac, turn it off -> restart your Mac, and then turn it back on. Similarly, on your iPhone/iPad, choose Don’t Allow for Writing Tools and reboot your device.
- Then, launch the Apple Notes app and open a note -> Select text and hit the Apple Intelligence icon.
- Next up, select the “Proofread” option and allow it to do its job without any restriction.
- Once it has fixed your text, a tiny banner will appear at the top, showing the total number of changes.
- If you are not pleased with the proofreading, hit the “Revert” option. However, if the edited text is in line with your requirements, hit the Done button and that’s about it!
Disable/Enable Apple Intelligence
Sometimes, all you have to do to resolve the Apple Intelligence issues is to turn it off and turn it back on.
- On your iDevice, launch the System Settings/Settings -> Apple Intelligence & Siri -> turn off the toggle for Apple Intelligence -> Restart your device and turn Apple Intelligence back on.
Update Software
Should the Apple Intelligence proofreader continue to malfunction, try updating your devices.
- On iPhone/iPad, navigate to Settings -> General -> Software Update.
- On Mac, launch the System Settings app -> General -> Software Update.
Once you have successfully updated your iDevice, take the proofreader for a spin to check if the issue is gone. If it has, there is a high chance that a bug was hindering Apple Intelligence from working properly.
