Trigger Automatic Windows Tiling on Your Mac with a Drag Gesture

  • Simply, drag a window to a side, top, bottom edge, or corner on the screen to reveal a grey border previewing your window tile. 
  • Now, when you let go of the window tile, your window will instantly snap into place. 
  • While dragging a window to an edge will let you make a half-screen window, dragging it to a corner will allow you to invoke a quarter-screen window.

Keyboard Shortcuts to Use Window Tiling Feature on Your Mac

Now, I would like to point out the keyboard shortcuts that will let you get the most out of the automatic window tiling feature on your Mac.

  • To make a window a half-screen tile, use the Function + control + the left, right, up, or down arrow keys.
  • To rearrange window tiles, use the Function + control + shift + the left, right, up, or down arrow keys.
  • And, if you want to return a window tile to its previous size, use use the Function + control + R keyboard shortcut

Use Windows Menu to Move and Resize Windows on Your Mac

Note that you can also make use of the “Window” menu to move and resize windows at will on your Mac. 

  • To do so, dive into the Window menu at the top -> Move & Resize section.
  • After that, select the desired Window Tiling Control options.

Use the Green Traffic Light/Maximize Window Button to Move & Resize Windows on macOS

Notably, you can also fine-tune your windows through the green maximize window button. 

  • Just hover the pointer over the “Green Maximise Window” button in the top left corner -> Under the Move & Resize section, you should see the “Window Tile Control” options.
