Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air—touted as a slim, redesigned addition to the iPhone lineup—may have just had its weight and battery capacity leaked, shedding light on previously undisclosed details.

According to a Korean-language blog post on Naver by leaker yeux1122, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display, weigh approximately 145 grams, and include a 2,800mAh battery. It’s worth mentioning that the information reportedly comes from a verified mass production sample. This source has a history of accurately leaking Apple-related hardware information.

At 145 grams, the iPhone 17 Air would weigh close to the iPhone SE 2 (148g) and the iPhone 13 mini (141g), both known for their lightweight design. The 2,800mAh battery size is similar to that of the iPhone 12.

However, the post notes that Apple might utilize high-density battery technology, which could boost the effective battery capacity by 15–20%.

Silicon-Anode Battery

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air would feature a high-density battery, and more recent reports indicate that Apple supplier TDK is set to deliver silicon-anode batteries by the end of June. If true, this would make the iPhone 17 Air the first Apple device to benefit from this next-generation power technology.

However, opinions on the device’s actual battery performance vary. A report by Wayne Ma of The Information suggests the iPhone 17 Air may offer worse battery life than its predecessors.

Internal Apple tests reportedly show that only 60% to 70% of users can expect a full day’s use on a single charge, compared to 80% to 90% for other iPhones. In response, Apple is allegedly preparing a battery case accessory to extend battery life for power users.

In contrast, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman presents a more favorable view, claiming the device should deliver battery life comparable to current iPhones, thanks to Apple’s hardware and software enhancements.

Ultra-Slim Design and Incredibly Power-Efficient C1 Modem

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to measure just 5.5mm thick, possibly making it Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever.

It’s also rumored to omit the Ultra Wide camera and include a custom power-efficient C1 modem, both of which could free up internal space for battery improvements.

Apple is anticipated to replace the iPhone “Plus” model with the iPhone 17 Air when it officially announces the iPhone 17 lineup, likely during its usual mid-September launch event.
