Without any doubt whatsoever, the most notable feature that the Apple Voice Memos app has received in iOS 18 is the “Live Audio Transcription” which allows you to transcribe your audio recording in real-time. Whether you are a vlogger, a student, or a professional, this feature can come in handy in several situations. That said, follow along to learn how to use Live Audio Transcription in Voice Memos in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
Use Live Audio Transcription in Voice Memos App on iPhone & iPad
It’s worth pointing out that the “Live Audio Transcription” feature is not available everywhere. Therefore, make sure that you are living in a country where this new feature is available. Don’t worry, you can easily switch to the United States (where it’s readily available) to get the Live Transcription feature.
- To do so, go to the Settings app on your iPhone -> General -> Language and Region.
- Now, tap Region -> Choose United States.

- Now, drag the handle upward to expand the recording UI.
- Then, tap on the Live Audio Transcription icon aka the Quotation mark at the bottom left corner of the screen to activate it.

There you have it! From what I have experienced, the Live Audio Transcription works with impressive accuracy. The ability to highlight the last spoken words and the flexibility to replace the transcription further enhance this new add-on.
