Times when you are relaxing on the couch or taking a nap, the flexibility to unlock Face ID in all orientations comes in super handy. After a long wait, Apple has fulfilled this wish. Hence, it’s now possible to use Face ID in landscape Mode in iOS 16 on iPhone. Let me set you up!

Before getting started, ensure that you have checked off all the pre-requisites:

Make Sure Your iPhone is Compatible 

Recently, Apple prefers to keep the major features locked to the latest iPhone models. Whether it’s the background removal tool or Live Text in Videos, each one has been locked to the newer models- much to the disappointment of millions of users. Yeah, it’s a killer strategy to tempt iPhone users to upgrade their devices to the newer models. So, if you own iPhone X, iPhone XS, XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, 11 Pro, or 11 Pro, you won’t be able to use Face ID in the landscape orientation.

Ensure That Your iPhone is Running iOS 16

Since the Face ID in landscape requires iOS 16 or later. Make sure your iPhone is running the supported version of the operating system. 

  • Go to the Settings app -> General -> Software Update and then download and install the latest version of iOS. 

Set Up Face ID, If You Haven’t Already 

Lastly, be sure you have set up the Face ID on your iPhone. If you are yet to do so, head over to the Settings app -> Face ID & Passcode -> Set Up Face ID and follow the instructions to complete the process.
