How to Use 3D Graphics in Math Notes in iPadOS 26 and iOS 26

With the introduction of iPadOS 26 and iOS 26, Apple has made Math Notes more capable by adding support for 3D graphing. This new add-on allows you to create three-dimensional graphs of equations with three variables, offering a dynamic and visual way to understand complex mathematical concepts like those found in multivariable calculus and linear algebra.

For those unfamiliar, the Math Notes arrived in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. It lets you solve math problems directly within the Notes app or the Calculator app. You can type equations on the iPhone, or handwrite them using the Apple Pencil on the iPad. Once an equation is recognized, it is automatically solved and displayed with in-line results. Now with iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, you can generate interactive 3D graphs for Math Notes on your iPhone and iPad.

How to Use 3D Graphing in Math Notes on iPhone and iPad

  • To use the new 3D graphing feature, follow these simple steps:
  • Open the Notes app or Calculator app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Navigate to the Math Notes section.
  • Write or type an equation involving three variables (for example: z = sin(x² + y²)).

  • (As the iOS 26/iPadOS 26 is still a work in progress, you shouldn’t expect the 3D graphing feature to work without any glitches. During testing, I have found it buggy. As of now, it’s not working with the needed precision.)
  • Once the equation is recognized, tap on one of the variables.
  • From the popup options, select “Insert 3D Graph.”
  • On the iPad, if you’re using Apple Pencil, you can also circle the handwritten equation, which will bring up additional options, including 3D graphing.
  • Once the graph appears, you can enlarge, move, or resize it using intuitive tap-and-drag gestures. This makes it easier to explore the graph from different angles and understand the relationship between variables.

Best Experience on iPad

While the feature is available on both iPhone and iPad, the larger display on the iPad offers a more immersive and flexible workspace, especially when using Apple Pencil for handwriting equations. This makes it the ideal platform for students and professionals working with complex mathematical visualizations.

Wrap up..!

And that’s about it! 3D graphing update in Math Notes with iPadOS 26 and iOS 26 transforms how users engage with mathematics on Apple devices. Whether you’re a student learning calculus or a professional needing to visualize data, this tool adds a rich, visual layer to your workflow. As part of Apple’s broader push to enhance productivity and creativity, 3D Math Notes is a standout feature worth exploring.
