Worried about hearing loss and wish to figure out where your hearing ability stands? If the answer is yes, Apple’s clinical-grade Hearing Test can be a convenient way to discover your precise hearing ability.
Unfortunately, Apple Hearing Test feature isn’t available in all regions and territories – as of now. But, bother not! There is a reliable workaround through which you can take Hearing Test in unsupported regions. If that’s exactly where you have set your sights at, follow along to get started!
Take the Apple Hearing Test in Unsupported Regions
Before going ahead, make sure that your iPhone/iPad is running iOS 18.1/iPadOS 18.1 or later. You must have AirPods Pro 2 to be able to take the hearing test.
- To get going, download this Apple Hearing Test shortcut and add it to your shortcuts library.
- After that, put your AirPods Pro 2 in your ears.
- Then, head into the Shortcuts app and run the Hearing Test shortcut to take the test.
- Follow the instructions carefully to complete the test.
As the Apple Hearing Test consists of a wide range of tones at different and very low volumes, make sure to find a peaceful environment where you can go through the test without being disturbed by loud noise.
Once the hearing test is over, you will get detailed information about the result. To figure out which category your hearing ability belongs to, take a close look at the five hearing loss classifications according to WHO.
- Up to 25 dBHL: It points to very little or no hearing loss. In other words, you will be able to hear normal conversation with ease.
- 26-40 dBHL: It suggests mild hearing loss, implying that you can hear normal speech from a close range.
- 41-60 dBHL: It confirms that there is hearing loss. That means you will require raised voices to understand speech.
- 61-80 dBHL: It refers to severe hearing loss. As a result, you can only hear very loud speech or shouting.
- 80 dBHL and more: At this level of hearing loss, you can’t even hear shouted words.
To dive into the details, hit “Show Details”. With the complete frequency-by-frequency breakdown, you will have a better understanding of your hearing level.
Access Apple Hearing Test Results on Your iPhone
Once you have gone through a hearing test, your results will be available in the Health app. Be warned that you won’t be able to access Apple’s other hearing health features like Media Assist and Hearing Aid Mode if this feature hasn’t been rolled out in your region.
- On your iPhone, head into the Apple Health app.
- Then, ensure that the “Browse” tab located at the bottom right corner of the screen is selected.
- After that, select “Hearing”.
- Choose “Hearing Test Results”.
- On the following screen, you can view your test results and even share it with your healthcare providers.
Add Hearing Test Results Using Your iPhone Camera or Manually
Apple Health provides a native way to add the hearing test results using your device’s camera or manually.
- Navigate to the Apple Health app on your iPhone > Browse tab > Hearing > Hearing Test Results > Add Data at the top right.
- Now, you can choose to add the data by scanning it with your iPhone’s camera or entering the data manually.
That’s it!
As Apple’s Hearing Test is still pretty new, it will take a while to be rolled out everywhere. Until it reaches your region, make full use of this workaround to fill up the void. Barring some limitations, it works on the expected line.
