How to Quickly Zoom and Crop Photos in iOS 17 on iPhone and iPad

Apple Photos app has got several cool features in iOS 17 including the fun-loving Live Stickers and Pet Recognition. But the one that has me hooked is the “Zoom and One-Tap Crop” feature in the stock photos app. This is exactly what you need to fine-tune your photos before sharing them with your friends or blasting them on Instagram – without having to take the roundabout ways. Read on to learn how to quickly zoom and crop photos in iOS 17 on iPhone.

Quickly Zoom and Crop Images in iOS 17 and iPadOS 17

To begin with, let’s briefly discuss this neat addition to the Photos app!

What is the Zoom and One-Tap Crop feature on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17?

Up until iOS 16, we have been using a slightly tedious way to crop images on iPhone. For instance, we had to dig into the Edit section -> hit the cropping tool, and then drag the corners to fix any image. Ugh! No more of this long process. iOS 17 brings you the one-tap crop functionality to speed up the whole process.

For those unfamiliar, there are multiple reasons why you may need to crop an image.

  • To adjust the aspect ratio (length to width)
  • To remove unwanted elements from the image
  • To direct the viewer’s eye to a specific subset of a larger image

So, the next time you would like to fine-tune any shot without having to dive deep, just zoom in and crop!

Zoom and Crop Images on Your iPhone and iPad

  • To get started, open the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Head over to the image you would like to crop.
Open Photos App and choose the picture
  • Now, zoom in using your fingers.
  • As you zoom in on the image, the Crop button will show up at the top right corner of the screen. Tap on this very one-tap crop button.
  • Next, you can take advantage of all the photo editing tools to adorn your image. For example, you can use a variety of filters, adjust exposure, fix shadows, and whatnot. Oh yes, you can also flip your image, if need be.
  • Once you are pleased with your image, tap on Done at the top right corner of the screen to finish.
Zoom the picture and then edit

How to Revert Your Image to Original on iPhone and iPad

Later, if you ever wish to get rid of the one-tap crop functionality and want to revert the image to the original, you can do so without any hassle.

  • To get it done, launch the Photos app on your device -> open the image in question -> tap on the Edit button.
  • Next, tap on the red Revert button at the upper right corner of the screen and hit Revert to Original in the popup to confirm the action and you are good to go!
  • Keep in mind that the “revert to original” will get rid of all edits made to this image.

Wrapping Up

There you have it! So, that’s how you can make use of the one-tap crop functionality to adjust your image to your heart’s liking. Did you find this hidden iOS 17 feature handy? It would be nice to have your two cents in the comments below.
