Right Way to Perform a Clean Boot on Windows 11 24H2

As a user, it’s always recommended to be well-prepared for miscellaneous problems. While it’s relatively easy to figure out the cause of some common problems like sluggishness, overheating, or battery drain, some issues require you to dive a bit deeper. And if you are not tech savvy, it does become a challenge to spot the culprit and encounter it.

For this very reason, Windows offers a “Clean boot” which works like a pro engineer in diagnosing the issues.  

Customize System Configuration

  • To get started, press Windows + R to launch the Run dialog box on your PC.
  • After that, enter msconfig.

  • Then, hit Enter to head over to the System Configuration window.
  • Inside the System Configuration window, make sure that the General tab is selected at the top.
  • Now, choose “Selective startup”.
  • After that, ensure that the “Load startup items” option is unchecked. Be sure that the “Load system services” and “Use original boot configuration” options remain checked off.

  • Next, select the “Services” tab at the top.
  • Next up, make sure that the “Hide all Microsoft services” box is checked at the bottom. It will help you conceal the pivotal system services to prevent accidental disabling.
  • Up next, hit the Disable All button.
  • Click on the Apply button and hit OK to confirm.

Disable Startup Programs

  • To begin with, open the Task Manager on your PC by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys at once.
  • Select the Startup tab in the left sidebar.
  • Right-click each of the listed programs and select “Disabled.

Restart Your PC and Test It

  • Having gone through the above steps correctly, close all the open windows on your device.
  • Then, hit the Start menu -> Power icon -> Restart.
  • Upon restarting, your PC will enter the clean boot mode. Now, it’s time to test and inspect the problem.

  • To get rid of the clean boot mode, press the Win+R -> enter msconfig to open System Configuration -> General tab at the top -> Normal startup -> hit Apply -> OK -> restart your PC.
