Thanks to a recent privacy-centric update, you can now hide WhatsApp last seen status from specific contacts on your iPhone or Android device. Though previously, the messaging app could let you conceal your last seen status, the setting was limited to Everyone, My Contacts, and Nobody. Hence, you couldn’t conceal your online status on a per-contact basis. But that has changed for the better with the introduction of the My Contacts Except option which allows you to select specific contacts so that they are not able to check your last seen WhatsApp status. That said, let’s learn how it works:
Hide Your WhatsApp ‘Last Seen’ Status From Specific Contacts on iOS and Android
It’s worth pointing out that the ability to customize the visibility of the last seen status on a contact-by-contact basis had been in the works for quite some time. For those unfamiliar, the last seen status on WhatsApp has existed for several years. It appears at the top of a conversation thread, making it easier for you to find out when that contact last opened and was active on the messaging app.
Step 1. First and foremost, make sure you have already updated WhatsApp on your device. If you haven’t done it as yet, open the App Store or Google Play Store -> Find WhatsApp and then update it as usual.
Step 2. Now, launch WhatsApp and go to Settings. On iPhone, tap on the cog icon at the bottom of the screen. And on your Android device, tap on the triple-dot icon at the top-right corner of the screen and choose Settings in the menu.
Step 3. Now, tap on Account.
Step 4. Next, tap on Privacy.
Step 5. Next up, tap on Last Seen and then select My Contacts Except….
Step 6. Finally, select the people from your contacts list that you wish to hide your Last Seen status from, and then tap on Done in the top-right corner of the screen to finish.
