Fortnite added a new weapon in the game, i.e., The Foundation’s Rift Rifle, in Chapter 7 Season 2. This isn’t the normal weapon that you can get in the game, but a powerful weapon that could completely outweigh the winning side. With this weapon in your hand, you can spawn a rift and teleport anywhere. It can be useful in situations where you are in the middle of an intense battle, and your health has dropped massively. You can use it to teleport out of the battle.
But this weapon is available only once per match, and the player to reach it first gets it. With that being said, if you get your hands on this Rift Rifle, then the game will turn in your favour. But it’s not easy to get one. You need to outsmart your opponents to claim the ultimate prize for yourself. But before that, you need the exact location and skillset to get it. Well, here’s your guide to getting The Foundation’s Rift Rifle in Fortnite. Whether you are a beginner or a pro gamer, this guide will cater to all.
Prerequisites to Get the Weapon
If you want to get The Foundation’s Rift Rifle, then you need 750 Gold Bars in your inventory. You need it to spawn the NPC in the game. You can get gold from safes, cash registers, by eliminating enemies, destroying props in houses, and by eliminating Ice King’s Guards.
Once you have 750 Gold Bars (which can be difficult to collect in the first match), then you need to locate the Foundation NPC and reach out to him as soon as possible. The player who reaches him first gets to hire him for the weapon. Don’t worry, even if you don’t reach out to him first, you can kill the player carrying the weapon and loot it from them.
The Foundation’s Rift Rifle: How to Get?
So, first you need to hire The Foundation NPC, take on the challenge given by him, complete the challenge, and then you will get the Rifle. Here’s how you can do that:
1. Finding The Foundation NPC
The Foundation NPC is located in the New Sanctuary. You will find it in the bottom-right corner of the map. Once you reach the location, you need to look for the NPC.
You may find him somewhere around this location. I found him patrolling inside the massive triangular building at this location. So it’s my suggestion to start searching in the building first.
2. Hiring NPC
Once you find the Foundation NPC, you need to hire him, which requires 750 Gold Bars. Interact with the NPC, and then select Hire to hire him. Once you do that, you will see ‘The Foundation’s Challenge’ has started.
Now, the NPC will join you as an ally, and you need to eliminate three players to complete the challenge and win the prize. The eliminations do not have to be consecutive.
3. Completing the Challenge
You now need three eliminations. You can eliminate enemy plays, or even NPCs in the game, whichever you find easier to eliminate.
Once you are done with the third elimination, the Foundation NPC will drop the Rift Rifle.
Note- If an enemy player kills The Foundation NPC before you complete the challenge, then the challenge will fail for that match.
How to Use the Rift Rifle?
Basically, the Rift Rifle is a variant of the Vector 7 DMR with the special ability to create Rifts. If you tap fire it, then this will deal standard high damage like any other DMR. It deals around 71 body damage and 124 damage for headshots.
To use the special ability, you need to hold down the trigger. Simply hold down the fire button for charged fire, and this will shoot a Rift, which lasts for a second or two.
Move towards the Rift, and you will be teleported to anywhere you want. Great way to escape the enemies when you are running really low on health.
Tips to Get Rift Rifle
Here are some tips that you should follow to ensure you get your hands on the Rift Rifle first:
- If you see many players trying to get to the NPC, then part your ways. Instead, wait for the player who gets the weapon, and eliminate them to loot the Rift Rifle from them.
- For the first few matches, keep looting the cash registers and other places for gold. Once you have 1000+ gold bars, then aim for the Rift Rifle in the next match.
- Protect The Foundation NPC at all costs. He is aggressive to get into a gun fight, and if he gets killed, then the mission will be aborted for that match.
- Use a vehicle to find your enemies, as NPCs will also sit as passengers with you. This will keep him safe from other enemies.
- Try killing NPCs and bots like Ice King Sentries or Echoes. They are easier to kill than the actual players.
- Once you have enough gold bars, hire the NPC quickly.
- After getting the weapon, teleport to a new location so that any other player gatekeeping on the weapon cannot kill you.

The Foundation’s Rift Rifle can completely turn the game in your favour. But it’s probably one of the hardest weapons to get in the game. The most difficult part in the whole challenge is getting the 750 gold bar to hire the NPC (at least for me it was).
Even though you get the gold, the challenge doesn’t end here. You need to complete the Foundation Challenge while also protecting the NPC to get the weapon. And yes, other players will also be on the lookout for the Rift Rifle, and they will try to get it from you at all costs. So once you have the weapon, you cannot stay in the same location for a long time.
