In this hands-on guide, I’m going to show you how to download the WhatsApp status video on Android and iPhone by overcoming the hurdle.

While there are quite a few third-party tools and apps that allow downloading WhatsApp statuses, we are going to look for more reliable and easy-to-use methods. Luckily, they are readily available on your Android/iOS device.

Download WhatsApp Status Video on Android

First off, we are going to discuss the way to save WhatsApp Status video on Android. Thanks to the Google Files app, viewing the WhatsApp statuses and saving them for later is hassle-free.

Bear in mind that the Google Files app wipes out all the statuses you have watched in a day by the end of the day. That means you must save your favorite ones before the day ends to ensure they are not deleted for auto-storage management.

  • To get started, launch the Google Files app on your Android device.
  • Hit the menu icon at the top left and choose Settings.
  • Then, ensure that the toggle next to Show Hidden Files is turned on.
Show hidden folder in Google Files app
  • Return to the home page and hit “Internal Storage” ->
  • Now, head into the Android folder -> Media -> “com.whatsapp” and select WhatsApp.
Choose Android folder in Google Files app
  • Next up, select Media -> “Statuses” folder.
  • On this screen, you should see the list of statuses that you have recently viewed.
  • To save a particular status, simply long-press on the status in question -> copy it, and then paste it in the preferred folder and that’s about it!

Save WhatsApp Status Video/Image on Your iPhone

Now, it’s time to download the WhatsApp video on your iOS device. Note that iOS doesn’t offer a hidden folder for storing WhatsApp status videos – unlike the beloved Android. Hence, you will have to make use of the built-in screen recorder to save a WhatsApp status.

  • To do so, bring up the Control Center by swiping down from the top right and then long-press on the “Screen Recorder” icon.
  • After that, tap on the “Microphone” icon to turn it on.
  • Then, hit the “Start Recording” icon.
  • Now, launch WhatsApp and go to the “Updates” section.
  • Next, tap on the status you would like to save.
  • Next up, tap on the Screen Recorder icon to stop recording.
  • Up next, launch the Photos app and open the screen recording in question.
  • Finally, tap on the “Edit” button and then perfectly trim your video and there you have it.

Unless and until the Meta-owned Messaging app adds a native status downloader, make use of the above tips. And yes, if you come across any other handy ways, be sure to shoot ’em across as well.
