How to Downgrade From the iOS 26 Beta to iOS 18 Without Data Loss!

Boasting an elegant liquid glass design and a plethora of notable features, iOS 26 is a huge update, probably the most significant one since iOS 7. Charmed by a ton of cool features, you installed the iOS 26 beta on your iPhone. While you enjoyed your time digging into the new add-ons, the unexpected bugs have made life difficult for your iPhone.

Hence, you’ve decided to take a back seat for now and downgrade from the iOS 26 beta to iOS 18 on your iPhone and iPad. If my guesswork is spot on, you’ve landed at the right guide to let you wipe out the beta and go back to the latest stable version of iOS. Read on…

Important Things to Keep in Mind

Before you begin, it’s important to know:

  • Bear in mind that if you created an archived backup before installing the iOS 26 beta, you can restore your device and your data after downgrading, without any pain at all.
  • However, if you didn’t back up your iOS/iPadOS device before upgrading to the beta software, you can still downgrade, but you’ll have to set up your iPhone or iPad as new. Yeah, you got that right! That’s the tradeoff you must be fully aware of.
  • If your Apple Watch is running watchOS 26, it won’t pair with your iPhone once it’s downgraded to iOS 18.
  • Another important thing you need to know is that there is no way to manually downgrade the Apple Watch. To do so, you’ll have to contact Apple Support.

Downgrade From iOS 26 Beta or iPadOS 26 Beta

Step 1: Launch Finder or iTunes

  • On your Mac, open Finder.
  • On Windows, open iTunes.

Step 2: Connect Your Device

  • Now, you have to plug in your iPhone or iPad using a Lightning or USB-C cable.

Step 3: Enter Recovery Mode

For iPhone 11 or later:

  • Just press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  • After that, you have to press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  • Next, be sure to press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.

For iPad (with Face ID):

  • To begin, press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  • Up next, you have to press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  • Press and hold the Top button until your iPad restarts.
  • Continue holding until you see the recovery mode screen.

Step 4: Restore Your Device

  • A pop-up will appear in Finder or iTunes asking if you want to Restore or Update.
  • Choose Restore to erase the beta software and install the latest public iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 release.
  • After that, be sure to wait for the process to finish. Your device will reboot once complete.

Step 5: Restore Your Backup

  • After the downgrade, you’ll see the setup screen.
  • Choose to restore from a Mac or iCloud backup—only if the backup was created while on iOS 18.
  • If no backup is available, make sure to set up your device as new.

Wrapping up..!

That’s about it! Downgrading from iOS 26 beta to iOS 18 gives you the stability and compatibility you may have been missing. While the beta offers a sneak peek at upcoming features, bugs and glitches can make daily use frustrating. Whether or not you have a backup, following these steps ensures a clean downgrade path.

Remember: once you’re back on iOS 18, keep an eye out for future stable iOS 26 releases if you want to try the new features again—without the instability of beta software.
