How to Downgrade from iOS 16 to iOS 15 on iPhone and iPad

Charmed by iOS 16 ’s wide range of cool features especially the eye catching Lock Screen customization, you installed iOS 16 beta on your device. Unfortunately, things did not go as per your expectation due to incessant bugs and issues that have dampened your excitement. And now, you are looking for a way to securely downgrade from iOS 16 to iOS 15 on your iPhone or iPad. Fret not, this hands on guide has got you fully covered.

Downgrade from iOS 16/iPadOS 16 to iOS 15/iPadOS 15

Keep in mind that if you had backed up your iPhone before installing iOS 16 Beta, you will be able to go back to iOS 15 without losing any data. Even if you do not have the backup of your device, you will be able to downgrade but can’t restore your device to its original state before you upgraded.

If you have installed watchOS 9 on your Apple Watch, Apple won’t allow you to use the watch with your ‌‌iPhone‌‌ once you’ve gone back to iOS 15. Worse, there is no option to downgrade an Apple Watch to a previous version of watchOS manually either. Therefore, if you want to remove ‌watchOS 9‌, you will be forced to send your watch into Apple. Pretty sad story, isn’t it? But that’s where the bitter truth lies.

Step 1. First off, launch Finder on your Mac.

Step 2. Now, you need to connect your ‌iPhone‌/iPad‌ to your Mac using a Lightning cable.

Step 3. It’s time to put your device into recovery mode. Since the method of entering Recovery Mode depends on the device, make sure to follow the steps correctly.

iPad models with Face ID: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. After that, press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, you have to press and hold the Top/Power button until your device begins to restart. Make sure to hold down the Top button until the Recovery Mode screen appears.

iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then, press and quickly release the Volume Down button. After that, you need to hold down the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.

Step 4. Next up, a dialog will appear on the screen asking if you want to restore your device. Hit Restore to erase your device and install the latest public release of iOS or iPadOS.

Restore iPhone

Now, allow your device to restore without any interference. After you have successfully restored your device, go ahead and back up your data. Be sure to choose the backup which you had made before installing the iOS 16 beta.
