With iOS 26, the Apple Files app has become more customizable, allowing you to keep your files and folders organized with the desired convenience and control. One of my favorite new add-ons is the ability to customize your folders appearance with pretty cool emojis and symbols in the Files app on iPhone and iPad.
Whether you’re organizing work documents, personal files, or creative projects, adding emojis or cool symbols to your folders makes navigation more intuitive—and a lot more fun. Read on to…
Customize Your Folders Appearance With Emojis in Files App on iPhone & iPad
This new feature allows you to replace the default folder icon with expressive emojis, stylish symbols, and even animated Animoji. It’s perfect for visually identifying your folders at a glance or simply giving your file system a little personality.
- To get started, open the Files app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 26/iPadOS 26 or later.
- After that, locate the folder you want to personalize.
- Long-press on the folder until a contextual menu appears, then select Customize Folder. This brings up a customization interface packed with options.
- Here, you’ll find a vast library of icons and symbols organized by category. Whether you want a briefcase icon for work, a music note for playlists, or a camera for photos, there’s something for every type of folder.
- If you’re feeling playful, tap the Emoji option at the bottom of the screen to browse a full emoji gallery. You can even pick an Animoji, giving your folders a dynamic and animated twist.

- Another neat addition is the option to add a tag. Tags help group related folders together, making it easier to search and filter content across your device. Simply pick a color or name your tag for better organization.
- Once you’re satisfied with your customizations, tap the tick mark at the top right corner to save your changes. Your folder will instantly update with your selected icon or emoji, adding both functionality and flair to your file system.

Wrapping up..!
There you go! This small but powerful update makes a big difference in how users interact with the Files app. With just a few taps, you can create a system that’s not only organized but also reflects your personal style.
So go ahead—add a splash of creativity to your folders and make the Files app truly your own on iOS 26!
