Charge Your iPhone with Clean Energy in iOS 16 or Later

First off, let’s understand what is Clean Energy Charging and its modus operandi!

What is Clean Energy Charging in iOS 16 and How Does It Work?

To put it straight, “Clean Energy Charging” is designed to reduce the carbon footprint. It selectively powers your iPhone when lower carbon-emission electricity is available. The iPhone keeps a close tab on your daily charging routine to figure out your charging pattern and accordingly reaches full charge.

According to Apple, iOS 16 comes with an under-the-hood technology that is set to automatically run in the background in order to collect carbon emission data from the local load balancing authority in your region. It’s worth pointing out that this feature uses the device location to determine the accurate region.

Having collected the much-needed carbon emission data, the iPhone downloads a carbon emission forecast from the authority. Subsequently, the iPhone takes advantage of this combined data to manage Clean Energy Charging to ensure the device charges when there is less demand on the power grid and cleaner energy is available to use.

Is Clean Energy Charging Available Everywhere?

Note that Clean Energy Charging is currently available only in the US. Apple is likely to roll it out in other countries in the future.

Step 3. Next, tap on the Battery Health and Charging option.

That’s pretty much it! So, that’s how you can take control of the Clean Energy Charging on your iPhone. If you want to play an active role in decreasing the carbon footprint, go ahead and make the best use of this well-thought-out feature. Even though Clean Energy Charging is too new to get a full judgment about the efficiency, I think it should live up to the expectation. What’s your take on it?
