Though no one denies the fact that Siri has come a long way on most key fronts, Apple’s virtual assistant still fails to answer even basic questions – unabashedly. To make Siri more functional and capable of performing a number of tasks like creating images, Apple has offered a seamless way to integrate ChatGPT with Siri.
While this is great for folks who would like to use the virtual assistant as a robust tool, it may not go down well with those who abhor ChatGPT and consider it a privacy threat. Thankfully, there is a pretty straightforward way to disallow ChatGPT integration with Siri on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Read on…
Disallow Siri Integration with ChatGPT on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
To ensure Siri’s collaboration with ChatGPT never goes out of your hands, Screen Time provides a dedicated way to revoke the extension. As this setting is a bit out of sight, I don’t think too many folks could be aware of it.
Disable ChatGPT Extension for Siri on Your iPhone and iPad
- On your iPhone and iPad, navigate to the Settings app.
- When you are in the Settings menu, scroll down and select Screen Time.
- On the following screen, choose “Content & Privacy Restrictions”.
- Now, make sure that the switch for “Content & Privacy Restrictions” is active. Otherwise, you won’t be able to make any changes.
- Next, select the “Intelligence & Siri” option.
- Up next, choose “ChatGPT Extension” and ensure that the “Don’t Allow” option is selected.
- Going forward, you can use Siri in its original avatar without the advanced AI skills of ChatGPT.
Disable ChatGPT Extension for Siri on Your Mac
- Start by launching the System Settings app on your Mac. In the sidebar, scroll down a bit and choose Screen Time, which includes various controls for managing device and app usage.
- Next, head over to Content & Privacy settings within Screen Time. Under this very section, select Intelligence & Siri option.
- Now, find the ChatGPT Extension switch and turn it off.
- Do not forget to hit the Done button to confirm the blocking of the ChatGPT extension on your macOS device.
With these quick steps completed, Siri will now be able to operate as usual – but without making use of the ChatGPT’s AI tricks.
Whether for privacy, security or just a simplified experience, getting rid of the ChatGPT extension helps you tailor Siri’s functionality to your liking, ensuring it doesn’t come under the influence of OpenAI’s generative AI.
As always, if you ever happen to change your mind and want to bring this feature back on track, return to the Intelligence & Siri section and then make the needed changes based on your preference.
