To begin with, let’s briefly understand how recovering deleted messages work!

So, How Does Messages Recovery Work on iPhone and iPad?

When you delete any messages inside Apple Messages app, they are stored inside the Recently Deleted folder and remain available for up to 30 days. It’s worth pointing out that conversations show the days remaining before deletion. After that time, Apple permanently deletes the messages. The permanent deletion may take up to 40 days.

Step 1. First off, open the Message app on your iPhone and iPad.

Step 2. Now, tap on Edit at the top left corner of the screen.

Step 3. Next, select Show Recently Deleted in the menu.

Step 4. On this screen, you see all of your recently deleted messages.

  • Now, if you want to recover any specific message, select the message. After that, tap on Recover at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • And if you wish to recover all the messages at once, tap on Recover All option at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 5. In the end, make sure to tap on Done at the top right corner of the screen to confirm the action.

That’s all there is to it! You can follow the same quick steps to recover more messages in the Apple Messages app iOS 16 or iPadOS 16.

Note:

  • Do note that if you want to get rid of any message permanently, select it and then hit the Delete option. To wipe out all the recently deleted messages at once, hit Delete All.
