If the latest leaks are to be believed, Apple is gearing up for a major leap in wireless charging speeds with the iPhone 17 lineup. According to newly spotted regulatory filings on Taiwan’s NCC certification website, the Cupertino giant will adopt the next-generation Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard, potentially unlocking MagSafe charging speeds of up to 50W.
Qi 2.2, developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), builds upon the foundation of Qi 2.1 by significantly enhancing charging speed, efficiency, and magnetic alignment. While current iPhones, including the iPhone 16 series, support up to 25W MagSafe charging with a 30W USB-C adapter, the iPhone 17 could take this much further (via 91Mobiles).

The NCC filings reveal two new Apple MagSafe charger models—A3503 and A3502. Both maintain the signature white puck design but now feature braided cables in 1-meter and 2-meter lengths. These chargers are rated for an impressive 45W output (15V × 3A), a substantial jump from the 15W limit of existing Qi 2.0 accessories.
When paired with a compatible power adapter, and assuming the iPhone 17 includes a high-efficiency charging chip like Samsung’s PMIC, charging speeds could potentially reach the 50W mark.
This upgrade would bring wireless charging closer to the speeds typically seen with wired connections, enabling faster top-ups without sacrificing convenience. The new Qi 2.2 chargers are also backward compatible, working with devices from the iPhone 11 through iPhone 16, though older models won’t benefit from the maximum speed due to hardware limitations.
Beyond raw speed, Qi 2.2 also improves magnetic alignment and charging reliability, ensuring a more stable and consistent experience, especially during fast charging sessions.
While Apple hasn’t officially announced these new chargers or confirmed support in the iPhone 17, their appearance in regulatory databases strongly suggests a launch later this year, likely alongside the iPhone 17 unveiling in September.
In short, the combination of upgraded charging hardware and Qi 2.2 support positions the iPhone 17 as Apple’s fastest-charging iPhone yet—making MagSafe more powerful and practical than ever.
