Faced with cut-throat competition, xAI has launched a robust new Voice Mode for its Grok chatbot, called Grok Vision. It’s designed to let you interact with the world through your smartphone camera.
In terms of functionality, the Grok AI vision is pretty similar to what ChatGPT and Google Gemini offer. Notably, Grok can now understand and respond to real-time visual input from your phone.
- To get started, make sure that the Grok AI app is updated on your iPhone.
- Then, launch the app on your device.
- After that, tap on the tiny file attachment icon at the bottom and choose Camera in the menu.
- After that, you need to point your iPhone camera at an object and ask, “What am I looking at?” or “What is it?” and the chatbot will respond out loud with a context-aware explanation.
It’s worth pointing out that the feature is currently live on the Grok iOS app. The company has confirmed that support for Android devices is expected to arrive soon.
Note that in the latest update, the Voice Mode update also introduces multilingual audio capabilities, allowing you to speak to Grok in multiple languages.
Thanks to the real-time search integration, the chatbot can now deliver instant, up-to-date answers based on current events and information from the web.
It’s also important to note that these upgrades come on the heels of last week’s release of Grok’s memory feature, which allows the assistant to remember previous conversations, user preferences, and past questions. This enables Grok to deliver more personalized responses over time.
In addition, xAI recently launched the first version of Studio—a new workspace for generating documents and writing code.
Similar in concept to ChatGPT’s Canvas, Studio opens in a separate window and offers a distraction-free environment designed for focused content creation.
