Can’t Enable Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 iPhone or iPad? Fix It!

Pretty much in tune with macOS Sequoia 15.1, iOS 18.1 has also unleashed the long-awaited Apple Intelligence. Equipped to perform a wide range of tasks while also preserving privacy, Apple’s artificial intelligence has shown plenty of promise to stand out of the rest. And it’s this impressive showing right on the onset has kind of forced a large number of users to give Apple Intelligence a try.

Sadly, a handful of users have reported that they can’t enable Apple Intelligence on their iPhones or iPads. If this obstacle has also prevented you from activating Apple’s AI, now is the right time to resolve the issue and bring this ill-functioning feature back on track. Read on…

Fix Apple Intelligence Not Working on iPhone and iPad

From what I have experienced, the major roadblocks that tend to come in the way of Apple Intelligence are – Compatibility and Availability. Hence, checking off these two pivotal things will help you resolve the issue – more often than not.

1. Ensure That You Have a Supported Device

Undoubtedly, the biggest roadblock that you need to take note of is hardware compatibility. Apple has smartly locked the Apple Intelligence to the latest/top-tier devices. That means if your device doesn’t meet the hardware compatibility, it won’t get Apple Intelligence.

  • Only A17 Pro and higher (iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max) and Apple M-Series equipped devices support Apple Intelligence. Thus, be sure to fully confirm whether or not your device can get this feature.

2. Check Software Requirement

  • Another important thing that you should do beforehand is to make sure that your device is running the supported version of the software. Bear in mind that Apple Intelligence requires iOS 18.1 or iPadOS 18 or later.
  • If your device is not updated, go to the software update section on your compatible device and then update the software.

3. Change Apple Intelligence Language to US English

As of now, Apple Intelligence supports just one language – US English. Therefore, make sure that you have changed the language to US English.

  • To get it done, open the Settings app on your device -> Apple Intelligence & Siri -> Drop-down menu next to Language and choose US English.

4. Make Sure to Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist and Perfectly Set It Up

  • Having taken care of all the pivotal requirements, open the Settings app on your device -> Apple Intelligence & Siri -> tap on Join Apple Intelligence Waitlist and confirm the action.
  • Now, you will need to wait until Apple Intelligence has been available on your iOS device. Once it is available to use, you will get an alert to set it up.
  • Now, follow the instructions to perfectly set up Apple Intelligence.

5. Change Country/Region to United States

If nothing has worked to bring Apple Intelligence back on track, I would recommend you change the country/region to the United States on your device.

  • To get it done, head into the Settings app -> General -> Language & Region -> Region -> United States.

  • After that, you have to restart your iPhone or iPad and check if you got the better of the issue. Hopefully, Apple’s AI should now be readily available to get started. Having found success with this very hack, I’m pretty confident that it will be able to do the job for you as well.
