5 Most Frustrating Bugs in macOS Sequoia 15.5 Beta 4

macOS Sequoia 15.5 Beta 4 has landed with a promise to fix the under-the-hood bugs and bolster the overall performance. While many have reported notable performance enhancements and bug fixes, a few Mac owners have complained about its malfunctiong. In this article, I’m going to talk about the 5 most frustrating bugs in macOS Sequoia 15.5 Beta 4 an their viable solutions.

1. HDMI Error

The latest macOS beta has caused the HDMI error for a handful of Mac users.

“Updated my Mac mini M1 last night and today my second monitor (HDMI) is just flickering – the Thunderbolt monitor is working fine I connected the second monitor to my MacBook via Thunderbolt and working fine – anyone else having HDMI issues,” a Reddit user complained.

Possible solutions:

  • To fix an HDMI error on your Mac, start by checking that the HDMI cable and external display are properly connected and powered on.
  • Try using a different HDMI cable or port, and ensure your Mac is updated to the latest version of macOS. Go to System Settings > Displays and click “Detect Displays” if the external screen isn’t recognized.
  • Also, check Display settings to make sure the correct resolution and refresh rate are selected.
  • If you’re using adapters (like USB-C to HDMI), ensure they’re compatible and functioning correctly. Restarting your Mac can also help resolve persistent HDMI issues.

2. Facebook Messenger Crashing

Facebook Messenger has gone into a never-ending crashing loop for some macOS users.

“Since yesterday, after a couple of minutes, Facebook Messenger is crashing on both my Mac mini M4 & MacBook Air M1. Running on macOS Sequoia Beta 15.5. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Tried already uninstall & reinstall, but that doesn’t help,” FMisplon reported on Reddit.

Possible Solutions:

  • To fix Facebook Messenger crashing on your Mac, first try quitting and reopening the app or reloading the web version in a different browser. Clear your browser cache if you’re using Messenger on the web, and ensure your browser or the Messenger desktop app is updated to the latest version.
  • Restart your Mac to clear temporary glitches, and check for macOS updates that might improve compatibility. If you’re using the Messenger app from the Mac App Store, delete and reinstall it to remove any corrupted files. Also, disable any browser extensions or third-party software that might interfere with Messenger’s performance.

3. Chrome Not Launching Issue

Ever since I updated to macOS 15.5 beta 4, the Chrome browser has been unable to launch on my Mac. Thankfully, a few handful of solutions have helped me sort it out temporarily.

Possible solutions:

  • If Chrome isn’t launching on your Mac, start by force-quitting any existing Chrome processes using Activity Monitor, then try reopening it.

  • Restart your Mac to clear temporary system issues, and check for macOS updates that might improve compatibility.
  • To update Chrome on your Mac, open the Chrome browser, click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, and go to Help > About Google Chrome. Chrome will automatically check for updates and begin downloading the latest version if available. Once the update is complete, click Relaunch to finish the installation.

  • If Chrome still won’t open, delete and reinstall it—drag Chrome from the Applications folder to the Trash, then download the latest version from Google’s official site.
  • Also, try launching Chrome from the Terminal using the command open -a “Google Chrome” to check for errors. If needed, remove Chrome’s user data by deleting the “Google” folder from ~/Library/Application Support (note: this will reset settings and remove bookmarks unless synced with your Google account).
  • If you can’t open Chrome, download the latest version directly from google.com/chrome and reinstall it over your existing installation—your data will remain intact if synced to your Google account.

4. Dark Mode Not Working

The native Dark Mode is also having a hard time dealing with macOS 15.5 beta 4. At times, it doesn’t activate at all. At other times, it fails to offer any impact at all.

Possible solution:

  • Simply, rebooting my Mac has enabled me to resolve the Dark Mode issues.
  • Head over to the Control Center > Display > Disable the Dark Mode.

  • Once your Mac has restarted, reactivate Dark Mode.

5. Bluetooth Malfunctioning

My Bluetooth earphones are unable to connect to my Mac. They simply refuse to show up in the Bluetooth section.

Possible solutions:

  • To resolve the Bluetooth not working on your Mac, start by turning Bluetooth off and back on from the Control Center or System Settings > Bluetooth. Restart your Mac to clear temporary issues and ensure macOS is updated to the latest version.
  • If the problem persists, remove problematic devices by clicking the “i” next to their name and selecting “Forget This Device,” then reconnect them.

  • You can also reset the Bluetooth module by holding Shift + Option and clicking the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar, then selecting “Reset the Bluetooth module” (if visible).
  • For persistent issues, delete the Bluetooth plist file on your Mac. To do so, open Finder and click the “Go” menu at the top of the screen, then hold the Option key and select “Library” when it appears.
  • In the Library folder, open the “Preferences” folder and locate the file named com.apple.Bluetooth.plist. Move this file to the Trash or delete it. After that, restart your Mac by clicking the Apple logo and choosing “Restart.”
  • Once your Mac boots up again, macOS will generate a new Bluetooth settings file, and you can try reconnecting your Bluetooth devices to see if the issue is resolved.
